"Worst First" Single Tree Selection
We welcome anyone interested in single tree selection to visit our web site and read the material describing our method of selecting the "worst trees".
In order to be good forestry single tree selection should be made on a worst first basis. We consider this method of forestry to be "restorative" and the most economically and ecological beneficial of the long term management perspective. On our web site a landowner may read the methods Healing Harvest Forest Foundation Biological Woodsmen are trained in to identify the worst trees to be removed first. This system is called "Nature's Tree Marking Paint" and is a list of indicators of decline or poor performance based on three category's of damaged, diseased and inferior. There are physically visible indicators that can be identified for selection choices by the landowner or the restorative forestry practitioner. We reject diameter limit cuts as just another form of high grading. We also reject selective harvesting based upon species. Please let us know if you have any questions about this information and use this forum as a discussion place on these important issues concerning sustainable forestry on private land throughout our region. Thanks for taking the time to read the material, we look forward to the growth of this forum for the benefit of forest landowners.
Warm Salute, for the forests,
Jason Rutledge
